Here, the people study not only the present, to choose the best design, but plan the future, in 2, 5 and 10 years’ time.

The setting is one that would fascinate even the most skeptical.

A technology, somewhere between “touch” and something that has still not been tried out, would allow cooking, interacting with friends on social networks and using the same space to do something entirely different.

The enthusiasm of the young man who is explaining to us how technology is evolving, is palpable. He knows he is using a trick, because it projects from overhead, thanks to a remote control that he keeps hidden away, but he also knows that they are working seriously there.

It is not magic, but research and innovation. It is the most intriguing moment of the hour and a half spent in the design development laboratories. A genuine tour that has shown us how much work there is behind the success of a product. Nothing is left to chance. There is study, research, testing and analysis. And to finish, a touch of madness of great visionaries.

Immaginatevi un tavolo dove si proiettano fornelli, ricette e tempi di cottura. A Benton Harbor e negli altri cinque centri tra il Messico, il Brasile, l’Italia, l’India e la Cina ci stanno lavorando. Qui non si studia solo il presente per scegliere il design migliore, ma si progetta il futuro a 2, 5 e 10 anni.
Lo scenario è di quelli che affascinerebbero anche i più scettici. Una tecnologia tra il touch e qualcosa di ancora non sperimentato permetterebbe di cucinare, interagire con gli amici nei social network e utilizzare lo stesso spazio per fare tutt’altro.
L’entusiasmo del ragazzo giovanissimo che ci spiega come si sta evolvendo la tecnologia è palpabile. Lui sa che sta utilizzando un trucco, perché proietta dall’alto grazie a un telecomando che nasconde, ma sa anche che lì ci stanno lavorando sul serio.
Non è magia, ma ricerca e innovazione. È il momento più intrigante dell’ora e mezza trascorsa nei laboratori dello sviluppo design. Un vero e proprio tour che ha fatto capire quanto lavoro ci sia dietro la buona riuscita di un prodotto. Niente è lasciato al caso. C’è studio, ricerca, test, analisi. E per finire un pizzico di pazzia per grandi visionari.
