Thursday, departure. A year has passed since we opened this blog dedicated to the community of Mare Rouge, in the hinterland of Haiti. A community where missionaries such as don Giuseppe Noli and don Mauro Brescianini work, both former priests of Abbiate Guazzone, Tradate (Varese). In these years many people have followed them, that to concretise many projects (such as the creation of the aqueduct in the villages, building the Church, the school, the bakery, lights in every house with solar panels) have given up their holidays, going to work in these “dreams”. A year ago I did not know how many people I would meet. Some I knew, others not. It has been a pleasure to interview them, to tell their stories, their points of view on the meeting between two communities. Sentiments, emotions, actions, all became secondary regarding the experience that these people brought home.
Now is the time to touch the reality of Haiti, Mare Rouge. Many volunteers have already arrived to Don Giuseppe Noli at the start of August and have already launched their projects. I will leave in a few hours, Thursday 29 August, armed with much good will and not without fears.
From Thursday therefore, starts the second part of the story of this blog, a tale of two communities that come together and that grow together, each ready to donate all it can, appreciating the result, regardless of what it may be. And also I, with you, who knows what I bring home.
